• ENJOY MOLISE

In the heart of Molise

On the ancient traces of pastoral culture, through two shepherd’s tracks (called Regio Tratturo), the old villages of shepherds and the high grazing lands of La Montagnola Molisana, where many animals live in the wild.

Walking from Isernia to Campodipietra and go through the roads of Regi Tratturi and explore La Montagnola Molisana.

Historical and cultural itinerary

The old horizontal sheep tracks: the Regio Tratturo "Pescasseroli-Candela" and "Castel di Sangro-Lucera", with architectural and religious evidences of pastoral culture, through castles, churches, votive chapels and towers.

Amazing historical towns

We’ll find a suggestive atmosphere in the historical medieval towns of Isernia, Frosolone, Castropignano and Campobasso, with their artistic beauties like buildings, churches, fountains, crossroads, gardens and more. Then, we’ll enjoy the beautiful neo-Gothic of the Shrine of Madonna Addolorata di Castelpetroso.

Archaeological areas and museums

The archaelogical site and museum of “La Pineta”, located in Isernia. 700.000 years ago, Homo erectus lived here and reclaimed the land with rests of animals, now extinguished in the old continent (hippopotams, elephants etc).

Untouched and wild nature

We’ll find lush woods on the hills La Pineta and La Guardia, high grazing lands, lakes, canyons, rock walls and wide beech woods of “La Montagnola Molisana”. Then, we’ll explore the amazing views on mountains of Matese and the hills of central Molise.

Delicious food and excellent drinks

The journey is enriched by the excellent traditional cuisine of Molise and its excellent drinks. Typical products and traditional dishes, often handmade and old-fashioned, cheer up the evenings of walkers. You can taste cheeses such as caciocavallo, pecorino, burrata, manteca and others; cured meats like soppressata, ventricina, capicollo, rolled up ventresca, etc.; white and black truffles. You can drink Moscato white wine and Tintilia red wine.

Folklore and local music

During the rest, you can attend performances of folklore and traditional music typical of the rural and pastoral Molise’s culture and you can visit a farmhouse with zero miles food products.
